A Study on Pulmonary Function Tests of Track and Field Athletes in High School Students


Abstract
45 track and field athletes and 154 non-athletes were examined by pulmonary function tests. Subjects were high school boys and girls in Kwang ju city.
The results are as follows:
1) Frequency of breath: (cycle/min)
Male athletes show 12, female athletes 13, male non-athletes 15 and female 15.
2) Vital capacity:
(1) Male athletes show 4.11, female athletes 3.07, male ?non-athletes 3.07 and female nonathletes 2.94. The values of athletes are represented significantly higher. than those of nonathletes in sex.
3) Tidal volume: (ml)
Male athletes show 757, female athletes 718, male non-athletes 502 and female nonathletes 487. The values of athletes are represented considerably higher than those of nonathletes.
4) Maximal voluntary ventilation: (1 /min)
Male athletes show 192.3, female athletes 132.7, male non-athletes 114.5 and female non-athletes 97.9. The values of athletes are represented significantly higher than those of non-athletes.
